“While most people are turning away from the Self, afraid of what they might find, an artist is one who is willing to turn toward the Self, as one turns toward the Sun ― open, empty, poised to receive.” (Unknown source)
Turning towards the Self is what Morning Pages does for me. I quiet my mind. Sit in my spot looking at the trees. Hearing the early morning songbirds. Watching the sun break through the leaves. I take out my journal and begin writing down whatever comes to mind. It has become a practice.
This is a time of finding my center, my inner voice. I rarely realize what messages are being conveyed while I am in the process of writing. It isn’t until later, sometimes days later, that I go back and read what I have written with new eyes and ears.
The messages revealed usually convey some AHA’s for me. A new way of looking at my art. Or a solution to a puzzling design element will surface. An item will magically fall into my hands to use as an embellishment on a current work. Or I might be led to read a blog post or book review that gives me another perspective for my artwork or guidance in my personal life.
Journaling regularly, gives me the awareness that I need to maneuver this life that I am living. Some may think that this all sounds a little ‘woo woo /out there.’ But for me, it has become my way of tuning into the energy of the Universe that guides my choices and nurtures my existence on this Journey of Life.
How about you Dear One? What means do you use to hear the still small voice that navigates your soul? How do you create an environment that nurtures your inner being? Care to share?
