The moment we start writing words on the page in front of us or applying paint to the canvas, we begin to see more clearly. That’s when we realize what we think, what we feel, and what our heart wants us to know.
I started my journaling practice in 1995 when I discovered the book, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. Her practice of Morning Pages inspired me to journal on a regular basis. I started with a pretty bound book and soon learned that the words flowed so quickly that a stenographers notebook worked much better for my practice. I have collected dozens of these pads through the years before I switched to Pages on my iPad.
The electronic journal, after I got used to it, proved to be more portable for travel and readily available for publishing excerpts on my blog. The blog practice has had many starts and stops through the years. As I would get into a grove of writing, I would question myself. “Who is reading this stuff?”, I would ask myself. “Why am I doing this?” “ Who needs to hear my voice?”
Sitting quietly in front of my iPad in the very early hours of a new dawning day, the inner voice can be heard. I go to the page and begin to hear the voice in my heart and my fingers touch the keyboard and the words start to flow. Hope Koppelman calls it MAGIC. Jan Phillips says it’s “showing up to take the call.” I call it the MUSE who is begging me to sit quiet so that she can be heard. And so I wait for the voice to begin my practice.
Over time, I’ve learned that as I record my activities or ‘report in’, it’s not long before I stop talking and I begin to listen. The pearls of wisdom come pouring out. Later, I go back and reread what I have written and I am amazed at what is now on the page. My old journals are an inspiration, if only to me.
Something periodically stirs in me. Something that urges me to create for the MANY. I seem to have faith that sometime, somewhere, someone is going to be lifted up when they read what I have written. I believe that my journey is not my own. I fantasize that my efforts are helping to lift the energy of my corner of the world up to the LIGHT of LOVE.
That is really why I create my LoveLights©️ I pray that their hidden messages are a boost to the person receiving the gift of this healing energy. That their colorful vibration will inspire the MANY to live their best life. That I am fulfilling my mission to be a humble servant to the MUSE.
