Dear Ones ~
Sometimes an art piece must hang on the design wall for literally months before it calls out loudly enough to be completed. That was the case with 'Keith's LoveLight'.
In April 2009, while in a frenzy of design productivity, this piece was painted along with several others. One by one, the smaller pieces found completion and ultimately made their way into the Envision exhibit, but the JUDGE (that inner voice critic) held up the completion of this piece. The design was too flat, too chaotic and untraditional, too green for the intended recipient. Or so I thought.
At the time, our dear friend Keith was undergoing chemotherapy treatments and my prayers for him found their form in a new LoveLight. As I stated, my inner critic challenged the worthiness and design of this gift; and so it hung on the design wall for month after month, where it received harsh reviews. My creativity was blocked. Unable to move forward, I was about to abort the entire project. Then I came across a stencil prepared for an earlier commission, (the Peace Pall) and AHA! that was the missing element!
Using the 'found' stencil, I was inspired to paint light rays on the existing piece. The MUSE does work in mysterious ways! The results silenced the 'critic' and moved me to finish the piece by stitching the details that bring the LoveLights to life. The energy goes in and the "light" comes out.
I was so pleased with the mandala that emerged that I presented it to Keith on his birthday. He is a survivor. Hopefully, he can sense the healing energy of the color green and the love that was stitched into his personalized mandala. By the way, his name is embedded in the design. Can you see it?
Until next time ~
Live Your Light!
